President Joe Biden has made a decision on how he wants to respond to the drone attack that killed three U.S. troops in Jordan over the weekend.
Biden is under pressure to respond forcefully to the attack, which the United States believes was done by Iran-backed militants.
But Biden must also balance the desire for a definitive – and perhaps sustained – response without drawing the United States into a broader war in an increasingly tense and violent Middle East.
Biden said he did hold Iran responsible for the attack "in the sense that they're supplying the weapons to the people who did it."
White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said he would not "telegraph any punches" the United States plans in response to the drone attack.
